So a couple of weeks ago, I wrote a blog post about how to set goals in a way that you actually feel excited to accomplish them (Check it out HERE). And this week, I will build further on that topic and dive deep into how to achieve your goals?

How can you create a system in your business that makes it inevitable to accomplish them?

Because I mean, hitting your goals every time isn’t something that happens coincidentally. It isn’t about getting lucky, it’s about setting up a system and consistently following through with it.

In this blog post, we will dive deep into how you can actually take action and how to achieve your goals.

The Ultimate Guide – How To Achieve Your Goals

1. Translate the goal into a system

Goal setting is the first step, but what lots of people forget is to translate that goal into a system (I wrote a whole blog post on why goal setting is outdated and why you should set up systems instead, check it out HERE)

If your goal is to write a book in the next 12 months. Then you could translate this goal into the system of writing x pages per day.

If your goal is to get stronger, then you could implement the system of doing strength training 3 times a week.

If your goal is to launch a course at the end of the quarter, then implement a system of working 2 hours every day on your course.

How to achieve your goals action point:

Find a way to create a certain system into your daily life, that will make it inevitable to reach that goal.

Why? Because if you just set goals without actually translating them into systems and putting them into your calendar, it’s probably not going to happen, right?

2. Ideally execute your systems at the beginning of your work day

Especially for those goals that are a little overwhelming and make me nervous, it’s easy to come up with excuses not to do them.

Oh, I already had a rough day, I’m so tired, I can’t possibly start working on this huge project.

So to avoid this from happening, I try to do my systems at the very beginning of the day before I do anything else.

How to achieve your goals action point:

Execute your systems and accomplish your most important goals at the beginning of your workday.

Why? Because when you do this, it isn’t as easy to come up with excuses and it really gives you this feeling of accomplishment knowing that at 10 am in the morning you already accomplished your most important tasks and moved the needle ahead in your biz.

3. Make it automatic

The key to consistently showing up and following through on your goals is to make it a habit so that you can execute it on autopilot.

And in order to create a habit, you need 3 things:

You need a trigger, an action, and a reward.

As a trigger, you need to establish something that will always be there (could be something you see or an activity you do right before) so that you remind yourself to do that action.

For example, you wake up and the first thing you see is your workout clothes laying on your chair. That’s your trigger.

This will remind you to do your workout (action). And ideally, you also have a reward right after, for example, some self-care activities like your skincare routine, reading, making a coffee,…

How to achieve your goals action point:

Create a habit by setting up your trigger, action, and reward!

And after a while of doing this consistently, you won’t even have to think anymore. You will just automatically put on your workout clothes and start your workout.

4. Anticipate issues

For example, when you already know beforehand that you will have a super busy day and you probably won’t have the time to execute your system, then anticipate this.

  • Wake up an hour earlier to get it done
  • Go to bed an hour later to get it done
  • Do an extra effort the day before to compensate

How to achieve your goals action point:

Anticipate issues and make working on your goals non-negotiable. You just show up consistently every single day, period.

5. Track your progress

Especially when you’re working on a larger project, it’s sometimes difficult to plan exactly how much time the different project phases and tasks will take.

Some things will probably take way more time than you initially anticipated and other things go much faster than you expected, that’s completely normal.

How to achieve your goals action point:

In order to avoid surprises, just make sure to review your progress every once in a while and adjust your timeline accordingly.

6. Focus on the journey

This tip might be a little contradictory in comparison to the last one,

Instead of only being focused on the results and the outcome, fall in love with the process.

Instead of constantly living in the future, be present at the moment.

Instead of only getting motivated by your wins, try to find your motivation and a sense of satisfaction in the journey itself: being able to express your creativity, creating something impactful that will help people tremendously, …

Intrinsic motivation and just doing something because it simply inspires you and it excites you is such a strong motivator and will make the process effortless.

How to achieve your goals action point:

Of course, we should celebrate our wins, big ones as well as small ones. That’s definitely important, but just don’t let it be the only thing that motivates you.

These rounds up my tips on how to not only set goals for the sake of goal setting but make sure you actually accomplish them.
